Rudsambee is an a cappella choir, presenting a lively and varied programme of unaccompanied singing. We have been singing together for about six years, we have broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland, we have made two CDs and a cassette.

Rudsambee company of singers from Edinburgh will be bringing a diverse programme of gorgeous songs from around the world to six venues in the Highlands and Islands this July. Our tour starts in Portree, Isle of Skye on Saturday 3 July and finishes in Kinlochbervie on Friday 9 July, taking in Armadale, Lochcarron, Poolewe and Ullapool on the way. This tour is supported by Highlands and Islands Arts.

The group numbers 15 singers and is known for its fresh sound, lively style and adventurous repertoire.

The name Rudsambee comes from the Gaelic expression rud sam bith meaning "anything at all" and the choir does indeed sing songs from nearly every corner of the globe. Our summer programme this year includes songs from the Balkans, Scandinavia, Southern Africa, North America, Asia and the Caucasus as well as puirt-a-beul (mouth music) and other songs from Scotland and elsewhere in the British Isles.

Much of the choir's music is newly written or arranged specially for Rudsambee by members of the group. Traditional tunes are given a new sound, and poems set to music in original ways. Be tempted: Rudsambee is an interesting and unusual choir!

In 1998 the choir was classed outstanding in the Edinburgh Competition Festival and won the adult choirs section. We have been broadcast several times on BBC Radio Scotland and have just brought out our second CD.
